Kate Winslet was photographed having a heart-to-heart chat with 5 1/2-year-old son Joe at his school in New York on Friday (October 30). Kate is also mom to 9-year-old daughter, Mia.

Kate was just awarded $40,000 after suing a British newspaper over an article labeling her "The World's Most Irritating Actress." The 34-year-old Academy Award-winning actress sued the Daily Mail in April (09) following a report that called her "vain" and accused her of lying about her fitness regime.

Following the ruling on November 3, Winslet released the following statement:

I am delighted that the Mail have apologised for making false allegations about me. I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise. I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy."

In a recent interview with UK's Marie Claire, the 33-year-old actress reflects on her looks saying, "Even now I do not consider myself to be some kind of great, sexy beauty. I don’t mind the way I’m ageing. No reason to panic just yet. I think I look my age, and that’s fine."

Academy Award-winning actress, Kate Winslet, was spotted strolling with her 5-year-old son Joe Alfie in NYC on Thursday. Dad is Kate's hubby, English stage, film and commercial director Sam Mendes. Kate also has an 8 1/2-year-old daughter, Mia Honey, from her marriage to director Jim Threapleton.

The 33-year-old actress said that creating a 'normal' home environment for her children is very important to her: “Having children just puts the whole world into perspective. Everything else just disappears. For my own children, I do want for them to look back and remember that it was me in the kitchen, that I was doing the packed lunches, that we were there on the school run, that we did take a bus. I want them to remember those things, because those are the things that I remember from my own childhood and that have been incredibly important to me. I also think that those are the things that children need in order to become normal kids. I don’t want them to feel that they are any different because of my job or Sam’s job.”

Stage and film director Sam Mendes and his son, Joe, who just turned 5, and 8-year-old stepdaughter Mia were out for a morning walk in New York City on Tuesday.

Mom is 33-year-old actress Kate Winslet. Kate recently revealed the best advice she gives to her two children: “‘Be yourself—that’s all you need to be. Why do you want to be like that person? Be you. Be you.’”
