Mel C On Motherhood & The Trouble With Being Sporty Spice

For Melanie Chisholm, aka Mel C, being known as Sporty Spice in the 90s girl band The Spice Girls, came with its pitfalls. In an interview with The Daily Mail, the 37-year-old singer and mom to 2-year-old daughter, Scarlet, says that it was "very tough" being under the constant scrutiny of the media during her "young and impressionable" days, revealing that she suffered from depression and bulimia in that time.
"I found it hard to read about myself," says Chisholm. "The tabloids were cruel about my appearance, and nothing can prepare you for that. You just have to fight your way through it."

Her new album, The Sea, marks former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm's (aka Sporty Spice) return to music following the birth of her daughter Scarlet in 2009.
"After Scarlet was born, I didn’t know how I’d feel about making music again," Melanie tells the Daily Mail. "When I was working in the theatre, I could see her during the day. But, after three months in the West End, I really missed music. I wanted to be myself again."

Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm and her daughter Scarlet were seen leaving Geri Halliwell's house in London, England on Saturday (May 14) after attending Bluebell Madonna's 5th birthday party. The adorable 2-year-old lost her pink balloon on the way back to the car but a nice passerby handed it back to her.
Sporty Spice recently said, "Scarlet hasn't just changed my life, she saved it."

Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm is trading in the glitz and glamor of the Spice Girls for something a little more subdued these days: A turn on the London stage. The 35-year-old mom is receiving acclaim for her portrayal of Mrs Johnstone in the musical Blood Brothers. She says that motherhood prepared her to tackle the difficult role.
"No one can explain to you that bond of love you feel for your child," says Melanie, who is mom to 10-month-old daughter Scarlett. "And it has helped me understand the role, too. When Mrs Johnstone must give up one of her children, I think of ever having to lose Scarlett, and my heart literally bleeds."

Former Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C took some time off from their mothering duties Wednesday (September 16) and had a girl's night out. The foursome reunited at the Palm Restaurant in Knightsbridge before heading to the Mayfair Hotel for drinks.
Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice was not in attendance, the mom of three just returned home to Los Angeles after unveiling her DVB spring/summer 2010 collection at the New York Fashion Week.

The latest Spice Girl has arrived! Melanie Chisholm, 35, and her partner Thomas Starr welcomed a baby girl on Sunday: Scarlet Starr.
"Melanie C gave birth to a beautiful little girl at 4:10 pm on Sunday 22nd February." Mel C announced on her Web site. "The baby weighed 8 lbs 3 oz. Both Mum and baby, named Scarlet Starr, are doing fine."

Mel C Getting 'Horror Stories' From Scary Spice

Former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm, expecting her first child in February, is nervous about giving birth because ex-bandmate Melanie Brown has frightened her with horror stories!
"Mel B has been talking me through all the fine details of giving birth and has told me loads of horror stories. Well, she is Scary isn't she? So I suppose it's her job to scare me a bit."
Still, she is looking forward to being a mom, and all of her former bandmates are very supportive and excited for her.
"The girls are really excited and supportive. I've seen quite a lot of them lately, except Victoria, obviously, because she's out in LA a lot."
