Melissa Etheridge On Break-Up: “It’s Been A Long Time Coming”

After seven years of marriage, rocker Melissa Etheridge recently announced that she is calling it quits with her wife Tammy Lynn. The Come to my Window singer opened up to OK! about the break-up and raising their 3-year-old twins, daughter Johnnie and son Miller.

On the break-up: “It’s been a long time coming. It’s hard, as any of these things are. It’s hard to do it in public because there’s no easy sound bite to say, this is what happened and so this is what’s going on. And even if I did, the perspectives would always be different so there’s a lot of sadness. And yet, she’ll always be in my life because we have two children.”

On the kids: “They’re wonderful. There’s a lot of interaction because of the kids and we keep that going and that’s good. Being a mom takes up most of my time and most of my energy. I’m going to be touring all summer and the kids will come with me."

Melissa Etheridge Opens Up About Parenting

Rocker Melissa Etheridge has been making headlines recently after splitting with partner of nine-years Tammy Etheridge. The two are parents to 3 1/2-year-old twins Miller and Johnnie Rose, while Melissa has two older children, Bailey, 13, and Beckett , 11, with ex Julie Cypher. The singer who has a new album out tomorrow, (April 27) sat down with Babble.com to dish on life as a parent to four.

On the kind of music her children listen to: They have pretty different tastes; they meet in the middle at about Nickelback (laughs). My son is very rock ’n roll; he’ll listen to Jimi Hendrix and Foo Fighters. He can barely stomach any of the pop stuff. My daughter has a sugary pop tooth — but not too much. She’s a big Taylor Swift fan; she likes Owl City.

On her parenting philosophy: Love and strong boundaries. As much love as you can possibly slather on — with a hold of your own sensibility.

On what shocked her most about being a parent? How much I love it, how it calls to a part of myself that I didn’t know I had. It’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me.
