Movie Review: 'Despicable Me'

Movie Review: 'Despicable Me'

Hooray, a summer flick the whole family is going to love! How could you not? Check out the impressive cast: Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Will Arnett and SNL's Kristen Wiig!

Despicable Me is set in a happy suburban neighborhood. But the story isn't all white picket fences and perfect families. Amidst the minivans lies a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the Jones', hidden deep beneath this home is an elaborate secret hideout. Surrounded by an army of adorable yellow minions, we discover Gru (Steve Carell), who plans some of the world's biggest heists. His latest plan? To steal the moon (yes, the moon!) in order to be the greatest villain of all time.

Along his wicked journey, Gru recruits three little orphaned girls - Margo, Edith and Agnes - who wind up changing the course of his life. Sure, there's some 'despicable' things that Gru has done and is planning to do. But it turns out he's just a big 'ole softy!

This movie will entertain all members of your family, while pulling on your heartstrings. The message of the film is positive, amidst Gru's evil plans. Good wins out over evil, with a strong does of humor and non-stop entertainment. Fun for the whole family!

Despicable Me hits theaters in eye-popping 3D on July 9th.

Movie Review: "Are We Done Yet?"

May 7, 2007 by LISA WEBER

Untitled "Are We Done Yet?" is the sequel to the 2005 movie "Are We There Yet?" Both movies star rapper Ice Cube and Nia Long. In this movie, instead of the long car trip, the family moves to the suburbs to a "fixer-upper" house. What at first seems like a dream house turns into a nightmare! Read more in the extended post.

Movie Review: "Charlotte's Web"

Apr 17, 2007 by LISA WEBER

CwParamount Pictures has turned an E.B. White classic into a heartwarming family film. Fern (Dakota Fanning) rescues a runt piglet from slaughter, names him Wilbur, and cares for him till he is too big to live in the house. Wilbur goes to live on a farm full of interesting animals, and one smart spider named Charlotte (Julia Roberts). Charlotte, very maternal, does some fancy web spinning to save Wilbur's life. This movie has an all-star cast: Robert Redford as an arachnophobic horse, Kathy Bates and Reba McEntire as a couple of countrified cows, Oprah Winfrey and Cedric the Entertainer as geese, John Cleese as a sheep, André Benjamin and Thomas Haden Church as crows, and Steve Buscemi as cranky Templeton, the (scene stealing) rat.

ShaggydogComedic actor Tim Allen (Home Improvement) does a great job playing an attorney who is prosecuting an animal-rights activist for a fire set at an animal testing lab. The main canine star is a 300-year-old meditating Tibetan dog that was kidnapped from his Himalayan home by the lab for DNA testing. Allen gets bit by the Tibetan dog, and then transforms into "The Shaggy Dog."  Read my review in the extended post.
