Maggie Gyllenhaal & Ramona Go Hand In Hand

She's such a big girl now! Maggie Gyllenhaal was spotted strolling hand in hand with her daughter Ramona Sarsgaard, who turns 3 next month, in Brooklyn on Friday (Sept. 18).

The 31-year-old Dark Knight star recently shared her struggles with working outside of the home:

Now that I have my own daughter, there are definitely times I think, Why do I have a job? Sometimes I fantasize about staying home with Ramona all day, so that I don’t miss a thing in this amazing 2-year-old’s life."

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who co-starred in the immensely successful The Dark Knight last year, is now taking a step in the opposite direction with indie film Away We Go, directed by Sam Mendes.

In the film, Maggie plays a hippie mother obsessed with back to the basics parenting. The 31–year-old actress, who is raising a 3-year old daughter Ramona with Peter Saarsgard, recently spoke with Parade.com about how she was glad she was a mom herself before taking the part.

On becoming an earth mother: "Shortly before my daughter was born, I had a fantasy that everything was going to be organic and cloth diapers. I think a lot of people are that way. And then, of course, you actually have a child you have to manage in the real world with all the complications that brings. But the woman I play is really far out when it comes to her ideas of parenting. She's still nursing her 4-year-old and the whole family sleeps in bed together. I've never gone that far."

Maggie & Ramona Are Giggling Girls

Maggie Gyllenhaal and her 2-year-old daughter Ramona were seen arriving at Maggie's off Broadway play Uncle Vanya in NYC on Saturday. Maggie was talking and giggling with Ramona while crossing the street and attempting to shield her from the paparazzi. Dad is fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard.

Maggie recently commented on the challenges of raising a newborn: "I’m not a leave-them-in-their-crib-to-cry kind of girl. Fundamentally, I didn’t find that worked. Everyone’s got their own thing, you know? You can’t tell another person when it’s right to stop breastfeeding, or how to put your kid to sleep. Every child is different.”

Maggie Gyllenhaal holds her own with the guys in her big budget action debut in the much anticipated flick, The Dark Knight. Maggie co-stars with Christian Bale as Gotham's protector and the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. Her new film marks her return to the big screen since having Baby Ramona with fiance Peter Sarsgaard. Maggie discusses her love of motherhood as well as working in the following interview with Parade. On balancing her time between motherhood and her career: "My daughter was 7 months old when I started and 14 months old when I finished. A big portion of my mind was with her always. But it was kind of a great job for a new mother because I'd work a couple of days and then have a week off. I had a lot of time to be with her." On using her mothering skills in her next film: "I did Farlanders, and my very first day on the set I was doing a scene with two 11-month-old twins who never stopped screaming. If I had not been a mom and known how to calm a baby and known how to talk to a baby and known how to hold a baby, the whole day of filming would have been wasted. So I thought, 'Thank god, I'm a mother.'" On how motherhood has affected her acting: "You see women who don't go back to work at all after they have a baby. I have felt in the past few months incredibly inspired and I really want to work. I feel like I have something new to say having spent this time with my daughter. I'm just looking for the right things to say it in."

Maggie Gyllenhaal recently gave an interview about her upcoming role in The Dark Knight, and how motherhood to 20 month-old Ramona has changed her life. On how motherhood has made her a better actress: "I think having a child changes everything and has deepened everything in my life. I think it has deepened my acting." On how incredible motherhood has been so far: "It really does crack you open in every way. I never knew that I could be so tired. I never knew that I could work so hard. I never knew that I could love so much or be so patient or be so excited by the tiniest, tiniest little thing. Everything about it has surprised me." On getting away from Ramona to work: "I do think that it's really difficult to get me away from [Ramona]. It's difficult to find a script that's good enough for me to think, 'Okay, I really need to do this instead of being with my daughter.'"
