Thandie Newton On Parenting: I Try To Be A Mirror

Thandie Newton has two daughters – Ripley, 11, and Nico, 7 – with her director husband Ol Parker. The actress recently talked about her unconventional parenting methods - she says she has no hard and fast rules when it comes to discipline, but instead tries to teach her children with her own behavior.

"I try to be a mirror instead of impressing myself on them all the time," she explained. "I take responsibility for my actions, explain to them, 'The reason I'm rushing is' or 'It's not your fault I'm upset.'

The lovely Thandie Newton has been recognized for her work on the big screen in films such as W and Crash, but it's her role as a mom to her daughters Ripley, 10, and Nico, 5, that is most important to her. The 37-year-old actress recently talked to Hollybaby.com about being a mother to her "two beautiful girls."

On what she hopes to teach her girls: "I want my girls to feel empowered. That’s the most important thing. I think as a mom it’s important to teach your children that they’re extraordinary, powerful beings. Your job is to keep the path clear so there is nothing they can trip up on."

Celebrities Who Chose Natural Vs. C-Section Births

Celebrities Who Chose Natural Vs. C-Section Births

Reports say that 80% of American women get some form of medical pain relief during childbirth. A growing number of women are requesting delivery by elective cesarean section. This trend is due in part to celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Eilzabeth Hurley, Britney Spears, Claudia Schiffer and Christina Aguilera, making the elective C-section the "it" activity of the decade.

The media has dubbed the movement "too posh to push," after Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz's Spice Girl mama. The British beauty, like some of the other celeb mamas in question, claimed that her C-sections were under doctors’ orders.

But were they simply trying to avoid abdominal stretching? Or the pain of natural childbirth?

Click below to see who went natural vs. the elective C-section.

Thandie Newton Covers UK's InStyle

Thandie Newton - mother of 9-year-old Ripley and 5-year-old Nico - graces the December cover of UK’s InStyle. The gorgeous 36-year-old Crash star talks about heading to yoga after dropping the kids off at school and keeping things professional with her hunky costars.

On having a svelte figure after having two kids: “That’s genetic! And I’m a Jivamukti yoga freak - it’s food for my soul. When I’m not working, I’ll drop Rip off at school and Nico at nursery, then I go to yoga. I also have an amazing personal trainer, who I see whenever I can.”

On if she's ever thought “Ooh, if I wasn’t married…” with any of her hot male costars: “(laughs) Listen to you! I’ve never dated an actor, just had the odd fling. Isn’t that weird? I don’t flirt with people - a long time ago, I stopped using my sexuality to have a relationship with people. I don’t think you really get a sense of me, sexually, and that’s why I have really great relationships with straight men.”
