The Garner-Afflecks Have A Baby Free Night
| Jan 23, 2009 by JENNY SCHAFER |

It was a baby free night for Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and their eldest daughter, 3-year-old Violet on Thursday night. The trio visited the Santa Monica eatery Blue Plate for a low key meal. Ben made some faces across the table for Violet, who seemed to have boundless energy.
Baby Seraphina must be at home with Grandma Affleck, who has been visiting for awhile.

cant get enough of that adorable little girl :)
They look like your average run-of-the-mill family in the restaurant. And Mom and Dad look very tired.
wow can't believe Jennifer is so willing to leave a newborn like that,my niece is a month old and her mom won't even leave her alone with the grandmother for a couple hours to go grocery shopping. My niece hasn't been away from her mother or my brother since she was born and her mom doesn't intend to leave her til she's much older.
But it is their second child. The first one, you watch like a hawk. By the time the subsequent babies come along, you know what you can do and not. From the looks of her face, she needed a little break.
When I have my first one in June, I don't intend on leaving him for a second, but my sister-in-law had their first this fall and she was ready to pawn him off on family after a few weeks. It is just different for everyone.
It's really good to get out of the house once in a while. Baby was warm and cozy with Grandma for what was probably a less than two hour outing for the new parents...people over-react to stuff like this.
sweet little violet
Ladies, do not be afraid to get out of the house and regroup! Babies are wonderful blessings, but incredibly draining. You'll lose your mind if your only companion for months on end is an infant. Get out, chat with friends, date your husband, and have a life! Trust me, baby will be very glad that mom is taking some time for herself now and again. Not every night like Britney Spears did, of course, but you know what I mean. A little girl talk over dessert and coffee, or a few hours alone in a mall without a diaper bag slug over your shoulders is very healthy.
I couldn't agree more Jen! Well said!
Indeed Jen. Also it is very good for Violet to spend some one on one time with her parents as I'm sure that her baby sister is taking up a lot of their time.
I second and third that Jen, very well said.
Great advice, Jen. I will TRY to follow it when my own first born comes in June. I am just afraid I will be too much of a worry wart about everything.
And I agree, it is important for Violet to have time alone with her parents (especially Mom since they do so much together) so that she doesn't feel neglected. I was the first born and I know what it is like to be the "big girl" while the "baby" gets all the attention and gets away with everything. :-)
Jen & Jennifer, perfect words and great advice!
i agree,
plus violet still needs individual time with her mommy and daddy!
The truth is...you will actually be a better mother to your child if you are able to get out and spend some time on yourself every now and then. You are better when you come back to them, and you appreciate them more.
Neither Ben nor Jen look very happy here. The looks on their faces look like Violet was misbehaving or talking back or something. Ben looks soooo tired & Jen looks unhappy.
why didn't they leave Violet at home as well? Ugh, if I was them I would be so in need of JUST adult time. NO CHILDREN.
I think it was extremely important for them to take Violet out even for a couple of hours with mommy and daddy for some big sister alone time. It's very easy for a three year old to start feeling very jealous very quickly of all the attention a new baby is getting.
