Olympic Speed Skater Chad Hedrick: My Daughter Motivates Me

The 2010 Winter Olympics start this February in Vancouver! Celebrity Baby Scoop is getting into the Olympic spirit and will be featuring some of our best athletes - who are also proud parents. First up is speed skater Chad Hedrick from Houston, Texas. Chad and his wife Lynsey are first-time parents to 7-month-old daughter Hadley. The 32-year-old Olympic hopeful says that he has "no intention of losing," especially in front of his baby girl!

On Saturday (October 24), Hedrick competed for this first time in front of baby Hadley and turned in a best-ever performance. The new dad opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about his newest motivation and how he is preparing himself for the upcoming Winter Games.

CBS: What does it mean to you to have Hadley in the stands at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver?
CH: "I just had Hadley watch me compete for the first time last week in Milwaukee and I gotta tell you…I have no intention of losing ever, but certainly not when my baby girl is watching! If I’m going to miss one second of her life, and I’m missing plenty of them, then you can be sure I’m going to use those seconds to be as prepared to make them count as I can. She’s a big motivator in my skating right now."

CBS: What are you doing to prepare mentally for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver?
CH: "Nothing different than what I’ve always done. It’s important not to get over-hyped about the Olympics. You’ve got to stay relaxed to skate well…I learned that the hard way many, many years ago. I have to train hard one day at a time and be confident in my own efforts and those of everyone around me in the great group of people I have supporting me."

CBS: Are you excited to be in Vancouver? Have you ever been?
CH: "Come on…are you kidding me? This is the Olympics and I’m an athlete. If you don’t get excited for the Olympics you don’t have a pulse! Yes, I’ve been to Vancouver to train and compete before."
