Lance Armstrong: Return To Tour De France A Family Decision

Lance Armstrong: Return To Tour De France A Family Decision

After three years of retirement, Lance Armstrong recently announced that he will return to the Tour de France as part of an effort to raise cancer awareness. Lance said that he spoke to one person in particular prior to his decision: his ex-wife Kristin,

“Quite frankly, if she had said, ‘I don’t support it,’ or ‘I’m not into it,’ I wouldn’t have done it,” Armstrong, 37, said on Wednesday. “But Kristin has been an amazing supporter. Very flexible and just amazing with the kids. I need that from her” to do this.

After speaking with Krsitin, Lance told his 8-year-old son, with some fear that it might leak,

“I said, ‘Luke, don’t tell your sisters. His sisters tell people everything. But I fully expected him to tell them.” However, Luke kept true to his word and then Lance told his twin girls, “I had to tell them, ‘Don’t go to school and tell everybody.’ When it finally came out, they said, ‘Okay, NOW can we tell everybody?’”

With friends and family supporting his efforts to raise awareness and funds for cancer research through the Tour de France, Lance is hoping to change the face of cancer on an international level,

“[My goal is to] change the face of the disease worldwide, to increase funding, increase education, and erase the stigma of the disease in certain cultures.” He is also aiming for a big turnout at the Livestrong Global Cancer Summit in Paris at the end of the Tour de France in July.
