New mom Jennifer Hudson has an impressive list of accomplishments including American Idol finalist, Academy Award-winner for Dreamgirls, and a starring role in the blockbuster Sex and the City movie. But one role ranks at the top of the list: mommy to son, David Daniel Otunga Jr., who was just born on Aug. 10. “My baby is my proudest moment,” says the 28-year-old singer and actress. “There are so many things, but of course he comes first.”
Jennifer recently went through an unthinkable tragedy when her mother, brother and nephew were killed just last year. But with her new baby joy and the love and support from fiancé David Otunga, Jennifer is moving forward. She was beaming at an event in New York City to celebrate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz where she opened up to Life & Style about the joy of motherhood.
On absolutely glowing because of being a new, first-time mom: “That’s what it is. They always say you glow when you’re pregnant, but I’m not pregnant anymore and I’m still glowing. I hope that doesn’t go away!”
On what David Jr. is like: “There are no words for it. He’s always looking around, like, “Who are these people and what’s going on here?” I swear he tries to talk.”
On if he might be a performer one day: “He might be. He seems like he’s very interested in music already. The other night he was having a fit and screaming — and as soon as I turned on music, he calmed down. I was exactly the same way when I was a baby.”
On what song helps him relax: “It was actually a song I just recorded. It’s called “Let It Be Me.” I did it with Rod Stewart. David just shut down and got quiet — and gradually fell asleep.”
Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard were in New York last night for the premiere of his new movie, An Education.
The couple and their 3-year-old daughter Ramona recently returned home from London, where Maggie was busy filming the kid-friendly flick Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. The family-of-three has been spending a lot of time overseas these days: Along with Nanny McPhee, An Education was filmed in England, as was Maggie’s blockbuster The Dark Knight.
“Peter and I were saying that we are going home and we are going to say little English things and our friends are going to think we are super pretentious!” she jokes.
However, the busy mom admits that it’s not always easy to just pick up and go now that she has a child to consider.
“When you’re pregnant, people love giving advice,” the 31-year-old actress recently told UK newspaper The Telegraph. “And the advice that I have the most disdain for is, ‘Oh, kids are so adaptable. Just throw them on your back and take them wherever you want. They will manage.’ I brought my daughter to London for four months and she is happy here, we have had a great time here, but she wakes up in the morning and says, ‘Momma, I miss Brooklyn.’ I think, yes, it is hard to be two and all of a sudden be in a totally new place. It’s very different to being 31 and doing that. The thing is, children are adaptable. They will manage, I believe, but always at a cost.”
All doubts are now gone! Rebecca Gayheart and her baby bump were spotted in Los Angeles on Tuesday (October 6). Rebecca and her Grey’s Anatomy star hubby, Eric ‘McSteamy’ Dane, have yet to announce their baby news, but we can no longer go on speculating. That is one healthy baby bump!
It’s been a baby boom on the Grey’s set! “We have to keep the name a secret,” said Mariah today (October 6) on SIRIUS XM’s Morning Mash Up. “Because if we told everybody, then somebody might use it and then we have to change it, and then it wouldn’t be as good.”
“We picked these names out a long time ago,” she added.
Mariah’s husband of one year also shared their secret to a happy marriage: “Lots of sex!”
While the Precious star did a agree that “of course” sex was important, she went on to say: “I’m shy. I don’t say things like that. That’s where he comes in.”
Dr. Phil McGraw made a big announcement on his show today (October 6), People reports. The TV doc brought his family onstage to announce that his 30-year-old son Jay and his wife, Erica McGraw, 31, have a baby on the way! This will make Dr. Phil and his wife Robin first-time grandparents.
Dr. Phil says he got the exciting news during a recent trip to Europe.
We were actually vacationing with the whole family and were in Elba, Italy. Jay and Erica had discreetly gotten several home pregnancy tests the day before in France, and they sat us all down in Elba and said they had some exciting news! ‘We are pregnant!'” The good doc went on to say, “The day before Robin had said to me, ‘I just get the feeling that Erica is pregnant.’ I swear she is some kind of mind-reader, but I guess women know these things.”
The 59-year-old Grandpa-to-be couldn’t be happier about the news: “I was stunned and thrilled. I did not see it coming at all.” Phil’s gorgeous wife Robin said she can’t wait to be a grandmother. “This is my dream come true! I have lived to be a grandmother, and now I am. Phillip will be putty in this child’s little hands!”
The good doc gives Jay and Erica the parenting stamp-of-approval: “I think Jay and Erica were totally ready and will make the best parents a child could ever want. I plan to be the typical doting grandfather that gets to do all the fun stuff and none of the tough stuff.”
Phil, Robin, Jay and Erica were photographed above at the Daytime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Erica, formerly known as Erica Dahm, is an identical triplet who posed in the December 1998 issue of Playboy magazine with her sisters.
Congratulations to the McGraw family!
