Adam Sandler goes to dark places in Judd Apatow’s new film Funny People, which is not to say there aren’t a lot of laughs. But instead of his usual funny-guy role, Sandler takes on the most challenging character of his career as a famous comic who goes off the deep end after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. The 42-year-old funnyman, who is dad to Sadie, 3, and Sunny, 8 months, opened up to Parade about connecting to the film and how family life has kept his jokes G-rated.
On telling dirty jokes: “I haven’t talked that filthy in front of people probably ever. We had real audiences and I’d go on stage being as filthy as can be and I’m seeing people are into it, and some people are going, ‘No, don’t go there.’ And then I would drive home and I’d be in my driveway alone in front of my house where my two little kids are sleeping and I just felt like the biggest, dirtiest human being. I tell you one thing, having two daughters eliminated any vagina jokes we thought about doing.”
On needing a break after Funny People: “I needed a break. I don’t know how these other actors go movie to movie and lose their minds in their roles and still find time to have a real life. I was happy to jump back into my real life and be with my kids and wife and work on that. But I’ll get back in it. It’s just that at night I’m not thinking, ‘God, I’ve got to get there again.’ But I’m happy I did this one.”
There’s a baby on the way for tennis champ Boris Becker and his new bride, Dutch model Lilly Kerssenberg.
There’s been no pregnancy announcement just yet, but Lilly, 30, has been showing off what looks a lot like a baby bump as the newlyweds vacation in St. Tropez, France this week. Her growing belly was particularly noticeable today as she donned a bikini aboard their luxury yacht. The couple were later seen taking a motorboat back to the mainland to do a little shopping.
Lilly and Boris, 41, tied the knot in a civil ceremony in St. Moritz, Switzerland just last month.
The baby would be the fourth child for Boris. He has sons Noah, 15, and Elias, 9 ½, from his previous marriage to actress Barbara Feltus. In 2001 Boris acknowledged that he is also dad to daughter Anna, now 8. Anna’s mom is Angela Ermakova, with whom he had a brief relationship.View Slideshow »»

Kate Garraway, 42-year-old English journalist, has welcomed a baby boy named William Garraway Draper, Yahoo reports. Kate looked fabulous as she left a London hospital on Thursday (July 30), with her hubby and newborn son.
William weighed 7lb 12oz, following a natural birth on Tuesday evening (July 28), a statement from GMTV said. The station added, “Mother and son are in excellent health.”
Kate and husband Derek Draper made a statement about their new baby boy: “We are in seventh heaven and keep grinning from ear to ear. Billy is so beautiful.”
The couple are already parents to 3-year-old, Darcey. The couple’s daughter has been unable to visit her brother in hospital due to swine flu precautions which do not permit children to visit newborn babies. The couple said, “We can’t wait to get home so that Darcey can meet her new little brother.”
Congratulations to the Garraway-Draper family!View Slideshow »»
Throughout her 20-year career Uma Thurman has played everything from a superhero to an assassin. Next up for the Boston-born beauty? A frazzled mom in her upcoming film, Motherhood.
It’s a role that Uma, who has kids Maya, 11, and Levon, 7, with her ex-husband Ethan Hawke, knows well.
“When my son turned 7, I sort of stood up straight,” she tells The Times. “And I suddenly realised I had been like this [makes expansive gesture of exhaustion], in one way or the other, for the past 10 years.”
Having plenty of firsthand experience with the film’s subject matter, Uma thinks that Motherhood does a good job of capturing the “chaos and confusion” that so many moms face.
“That’s what Motherhood is about. The chaos and the confusion – and also the loss of yourself. Of course there is a good part to losing yourself – any mother that doesn’t give herself up isn’t a good mother, but at the same time you can get to a point where you can’t reach the identity that helped you be stable in the first place – and that is quite a frightening feeling. I must have gone through years of it. Just years of confusion. Guilty when you’re here and guilty when you’re there, of being torn in half.”
Now that her kids are growing up, however, Uma says she is starting to be able to focus on herself again as well. Her goal right now is one that a lot of moms likely share!
