On the birth: “I don’t think I could have had a better labor although I did hemorrhage heavily afterwards. The great thing was that the labor started naturally which was very important for me because I was induced with Cameron and Bo and had a Caesarean section with Martha. This time I had an epidural but could still feel when it was time to push which was very important to me because I wanted to experience a natural labour.”

On choosing a name: “Malcolm was an early suggestion from my American husband. I told him that Malcolm was not a cool name in Britain but gradually I warmed to the idea! His middle name is Charles, which is Brian’s middle name and also the name of our dear friend Charles Worthington. And the third name is Tripp, the character played by Donald Sutherland in the TV series Dirty Sexy Money.”

On how the children have reacted: “Martha looks at him with incredulity as if to say, ‘This is a living doll.’ She said: ‘You can stick your fingers in his mouth because he has no teeth but you mustn’t give him a Chinese burn!’ Bo is a possessive mother hen and cannot get enough of him. And Cameron, who is nearly 14 and could have easily been quite disinterested in him, held him and just wept. They are all thrilled with him.”

On Malcolm completing the family: “Yes completely. Before it was me and my children, however much Brian loved and cared for them – and he feels complete love and responsibility for them – but Malcolm’s arrival means we are all related. He is the cement that connects us all. Plus he gives more meaning and importance to Brian’s role in the family. It feels as if we are all in this together.”

On plans for more children: “The first thing I thought when Malcolm was born and was laying on my stomach was, ‘Oh my God I want to do this again.’ I just love this feeling of having a child but with my increasing age and tiredness and having to consider the other children, I think four children is more than I could have hoped for and we should stop there. But who knows? Come and see us next year!”

Nicole Kidman Does Vogue

Nicole Kidman, 40, graces the cover of the July 2008 issue of Vogue. Inside there’s a 16 page photo spread taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, while Nicole was filming Baz Luhrmann’s, Australia. Here’s some highlights from the interview:

On being pregnant: “The whole experience is so primal.” When asked if she is really 7 months along (since her baby bump is so small), she replied, “Just look at how I’m sitting here with my legs apart”—her knees out at a 45-degree angle. “This is the way you have to sit when you’re pregnant.”

On living in Tennessee: “I’ve been in Tennessee, just sitting. We have a farm there, and I have an organic vegetable garden. This is a path I’d not taken before. My mum’s always gardened. My sister gardens. And I’ve now conformed to the Kidman women’s hobby of gardening. And it is just a hobby. I’m not feeding the troops. There’s a softness to the Tennessee landscape that I just love. It’s very beautiful out there. We have deer and wild turkeys.”

On carrying her own child: “When I first saw the baby on the ultrasound, I started crying. I didn’t think I’d get to experience that in my lifetime. I like the unpredictable nature of it. To feel life growing with you is something very, very special, and I’m going to embrace that completely. I don’t believe in flittering around the edges of things. You’re either going to walk through life and experience it fully or you’re going to be a voyeur. And I’m not a voyeur.”

On attracting certain people during pregnancy: “My sister has had four kids, and she says that when you’re pregnant you draw people to you who are genuinely happy. She’s right. It taps into that thing in human nature that is universal and collective and beautiful.”

On getting pregnant later in life: “You can fight life. You can wriggle and squirm and say, ‘This isn’t right.’ But I’m glad I’ve learned to let things flow. I’m now so much more capable of receiving love and giving it in a far different way. So to be given the blessing of a child at this stage of my life…you just say, ‘Wow, this was meant to be.’ ”

Chris O’Donnell’s Back On The Big Screen!

Chris O’Donnell first swooned us in a series of great films such as Circle of Friends and Scent of a Woman. He’s back in the charming family film, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, co-starring the adorable Abigail Breslin.

In real life, Chris and his wife Caroline have five children: Lily, 8, Chip, 7, Charlie, 4, Finley, 2 and Maeve, 6 months. Chris plays Mr. Kittredge, a dapper dad with a precocious daughter who face hardship during the Great Depression. Following is a rare interview with the busy dad.

On preparing for this role which deals with a father not able to provide for his family: “I’ve got kids of my own; We all love our parents and we love our spouses, but until you have your own kid you don’t really know what that kind of love is. It’s where you would put yourself in front of a moving train for your kid and I think that you understand what that must have felt like. Mr. Kittredge’s trying to protect his daughter as most parents do and not have her worry about the hardships of what was going on in their time. And when she sees him in the soup kitchen, he’s forced to tell her a little bit more about what the realities are and what they are going to have to do. He tries to put the best spin on it or prepare her for it by telling her that story about his car — don’t let it beat ya, and as parents that’s about all you can do. It’s a situation where he has to go off to find work.”

On his fears of being able to provide for his own large family:“What’s tough for me is when I’m away on location because in my business it’s feast or famine when it comes to spending time with my kids. I either have more time than I know what to do with or I don’t have any time with them, so I try to maximize my time when I’m with them. But when I’m away on location, thank God for Apple iChat because I can see them on the computer. It’s scary — part of being a parent is trying to teach the kids the lessons they need to learn. And sometimes, the kid comes home and asks you a question and you’re kind of stalling thinking what’s the answer that I am supposed to give here. I’ll be calling my older brothers or sisters and asking what do we tell them about this again? Because you realize they are coming to you for all this information and most of it is instinctual, but every once in a while they’ll come up with something and you’ll think that’s a tricky one. You know, let me get back to you on that one.”

On doing Batman for his sons and this movie for his daughters: “She [Lily] is a fan [of the American Girl dolls] and I knew about it because I’m from Chicago and I had visited the store before with my nieces and now with my daughter and we’ve got a lot of the dolls and that sort of thing. I was highly aware of the whole American Girl phenomenon and I think that for people that do know about the dolls they are going to be so excited about the movie. And, for everyone else that wants to take their kids to a movie on the weekend, they are going to be really pleased because there’s so many times that kids want to go to a movie and I can’t tell you how many bad family movies I’ve sat through. This one really works; It’s a great ride. It teaches kids a great lesson and they don’t even realize they are being taught a lesson. When I left the theater with my daughter, she started asking me all about the people who lost their houses and it was great to have brought that subject up especially now — it’s going to be so timely.”
