TV’s top mom Challen Cates, lights up the small screen on Nickelodeon’s No. 1 live-action musical-comedy Big Time Rush as Jennifer Knight, mother to the hockey-playing, reluctant boy band member Kendall, and his younger sister Katie.
Denise Richards, mother to daughters Sam and Lola, recently stated that her new reality show is doomed for criticism whether or not she uses her kids:
“If I have my kids on my show, I’m exploiting them,” she tells Redbook. “If I don’t, people will think I’m not a hands-on mom.” [However, she goes on to say that they are an integral part of her life and] “that’s why it’s very important to me that the girls are part of it.”
Denise’s ex-husband Charlie Sheen’s fiancée Brooke Mueller doesn’t think it’s a very good idea: “It’s exploitative and not good.” Denise’s show debuts Memorial Day.
With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, a few celebrity moms chimed in about how having children has changed their lives.
Actress Kate Hudson, 29 Son Ryder, 4, “I’m very impatient. I like to get things done. I move fast. Patience has been something he’s teaching me. Your children teach you so much. It’s a real mirror of yourself. You recognize the things you do directly affect your children. It hopefully allows you to be more conscious of them and yourself and your actions. When you have kids, it goes so fast. I felt like I was pregnant last weekend, but he’s 4 and he’s talking and he’s gathering his ideas and learning who he is. It’s so easy to step in and fix things and make everything right, but you have to let him figure things out on his own. That’s one of my favorite things to do, to watch how they treat other kids and how they observe other people. Your life becomes about your children. I wake up every morning and I hear his voice, and that’s my favorite thing in the world. There’s nothing like it.”
Actress Sigourney Weaver, 58 Daughter Charlotte, 18, “It’s a very humbling experience. Parenting has changed and evolved so much since I was parented. Parents enjoy their kids much more. It’s just fun. It’s a potentially blossoming time, because you have to be everything. You have to be a great storyteller. You have to be very organized, very supportive and still. You can’t believe you have this without a license, without any training. You learn as you go. You’re getting to know your child, who is a complete individual at birth, and you spend years getting to know who that person is and making sure that person is as supported as possible.”

Mom of two, Melissa Joan Hart blogged on her MySpace page about life at the moment with her boys Mason, 2, and Brady, 8 weeks:
Hey all, I figured it was about time for an update about our crazy lives. We are adjusting nicely to being a family of four, although it is a tough job. Its about to get a lot tougher as Mark leaves on tour this week.(Check out his page or website for dates with “Hurt”) I’m not sure I can handle 2 babies on my own, unlike my sis who is a super-Mom. But I am off on a sort of tour as well. First to NY to do press for the Potty Training campaign for Pull-ups Training Pants and then off to Baton Rouge to shoot a feature film all of June. Its a thriller called “9 Dead” that my mother is producing with our company Hartbreak Films. After this film is wrapped we will be heading off to an unknown destination to shoot a new ABC family movie I am producing about 2 people who fake a wedding to get the gifts. Its really funny and anyone that liked Holiday In Handcuffs is gonna love this one. Wish us luck on our travels and say a prayer for Mark that he doesn’t die from heartbreak from missing his boys too much!

Extra’s Dayna Devon got a chance to talk to Nicole Richie about motherhood during her photoshoot for the June issue of Harper’s Bazaar, which took place at grandpa Lionel Richie’s estate in Beverly Hills. Of course adorable 3-month old Harlow was there, and she was the center of attention. The interview with Extra airs Thursday, but here’s some highlights:
On motherhood: “Everything I do is for her [Harlow]. My whole life revolves around her and I absolutely love it. I was so excited from the minute I found out I was pregnant… and it’s been nothing but an amazing ride since.”
On being the first in her group of friends to have a baby: “I feel like my group of five to ten friends, they really love her, like she’s theirs… my friends never go outside for smoke breaks anymore, they don’t curse, they are definitely more demure. It’s actually been really interesting.”
On how Joel handles diaper duty:”Joel actually changes more diapers than I do… It’s his time with her. He sings to her… he laughs with her, plays with her. It’s amazing.”
On the paparazzi: “It is scary. I don’t want that around her, I just don’t… it’s definitely the thing that makes me most nervous.”
Lastly, Richie tells Devon, “I’m the luckiest girl alive right now. I have nothing to complain about.”
The issue hits newsstands May 20 – to read some of the article click here.
