Nigella Lawson has responded to the criticism she received after quotes were put out in the press telling how she is planning on not leaving her children any money and giving away their Christmas presents. She said on her website,
“You might have noticed in the press that I have (apparently) cut my children out of my will, cruel mother that I am. Of course I have no intention of leaving my children destitute and starving – rather, this is a story that came from a comment I made about my belief that you have to work in order to learn the value of money.
I have always said of my children that once they have finished university or training, whatever education they choose, they have to support themselves through work, as I did, but I have never discussed the details of my will with anyone. The story that has been circulating is not a true reflection of my intentions and, although I’d normally ignore it, I want to set the record, not least to spare my children continuing embarrassment.”

TV chef Nigella Lawson revealed how she once made her two children, Mimi, 14, and Bruno, 12, give away their Christmas presents. Nigella’s husband is art collector Charles Saatchi. She said in Red Magazine,
“I don’t want to turn Christmas into a thing about shopping. One year, I was incredibly nasty and strict, and made the children choose a present that they wanted to keep and take the rest to Great Ormond Street. I wanted them to think about how lucky they are. Of course, they roll their eyes every time I start,” she said.
The couple have an estimated joint fortune of £110 million ($178 million),
“I am determined that my children should have no financial security. It ruins people not having to earn money. I argue with my husband, Charles, because he believes that you should be able to leave money to your children. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree.”
Nigella is guest editor of the December issue of Red Magazine.

Nicole Kidman conceived daughter Sunday Rose, 3 1/2 months, in Kununurra, Western Australia, while filming the movie Australia, and Nicole says that right from the start, she felt a connection to the region,
“I arrived in Kununurra and we went straight to the set. I was kind of reeling for about three days. Then it started to capture me. Today, I was saying to my husband, who’s here, ‘It’s got me.’ It grabs hold of you; there’s something in the air, the sunrises and the sunsets. There’s something in the earth and the nature of the people. Before you know it, you’re a part of the land, which is what we’re trying to put into the film.”
The comment was prophetic, as the first interview took place right before Sunday was conceived. Nicole commented on there being something in the “fertility waters” of the region. And, despite “some bad morning sickness” while filming, Australia ranks as one of her favourite film experiences, if only for one very primal reason – she now has her own Kununurra kid, Sunday Rose.
“Basically this film has given me everything I wanted out of it,” Kidman says when we resume our interview 15 months after meeting on location. “She (the baby) is such a blessing and I hope the film is a blessing in the same way, because to receive her at this stage in my life was such a surprise. But at the same time, oh, what a beautiful thing to be given, and by chance.”

And, Nicole says, after two miscarriages with ex-husband Tom Cruise, she and husband Keith Urban were not trying for a baby when Sunday was conceived!
“When you’re in the middle of a film, it’s not something… I mean, that wasn’t something I was planning,” she says. “It was a beautiful surprise.”
On how Sunday is doing,
“She’s good, she’s growing and she’s just so precious. I take her everywhere; she’s that kind of baby who’s willing to be with her mama,” Kidman coos. “She’s pretty mobile. She’s actually been very easy and lovely.”
Nicole is currently rehearsing in London for her next movie project, Nine. The musical co-stars Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Dame Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, and Daniel Day-Lewis, which she is a bit nervous about!
“I’m only working a couple of weeks in it and it’s so lovely to have this rapport with other women. And it’s nice to be singing and dancing again, but I’m really nervous to do it,” she says. “Because I’ve just had a baby, I’m behind the eight ball a bit – your body can’t do certain things,” she says. “I’m like, ‘Hang on, I can’t hip-hop.’ But (director) Rob Marshall has been wonderful and they’ve all been so accommodating – they’ve adapted certain things for me, and for having the baby around the set. I’ve had her there the whole time and she knows all the songs and has given them the thumbs up. Of course, with Keith, she’s surrounded by music – she’s very at peace with it.”
