Actor Heath Ledger passed away nearly a year ago, but yesterday, he won his first Golden Globe Award, Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, which has, to date, earned $997 million worldwide, making it the second-highest grossing film ever, behind Titanic. Heath’s mother, Sally, says that the award will end where it belongs: with his 3-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.
“I should imagine that eventually it will be going to Matilda,” Sally Bell says from her home in Perth, Australia, in an exclusive interview. “At this stage she is only so young, but down the track she will have all these things. It will belong to her because she is part of him.”
Sally also said she and the rest of the family are “bursting with pride” over her son’s recognition for playing the Joker, a role he “loved.”
“It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father’s abilities and [the] respect he had in the industry. That is such a wonderful legacy to leave,” she says.
Heath’s family knew he would win the Golden Globe before they boarded a flight to the US from Australia, and that there were “a few tears.”
“There is a lot of emotion tied up in this and we have to deal with that emotion first before we can relax and enjoy the moment, if you know what I mean,” she explains, adding that Heath would have appreciated the acknowledgment from his peers. “That’s what meant the most to him really,” she says.

Victoria Beckham took her sons Brooklyn, 9 1/2, Romeo, 6, and Cruz, 4 next month, to the Coliseum in Rome, Italy last Saturday. The boys posed with old-time Roman soldiers as their mom took pictures, and then the family explored the surrounding areas. They have been in Rome while their dad is on loan to Italy’s soccer team.
The Coliseum was opened in 80 A.D. and was used to showcase great fights, shows and hunts involving the killing of thousands of animals. People from all over Rome were allowed admittance for free, and it could hold up to seventy thousand spectators. After it fell into disuse, it was threatened with demolition, until Pope Benedict XIV declared it a a sacred monument dedicated to the Passion of Christ. Since then, it has become an object of worship for Christians and one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions.

The day before her oldest son Mason‘s 3rd birthday – which was celebrated at Disneyland – OK! magazine caught up with Melissa Joan Hart at the Art of Elysium 2nd Annual Black Tie Charity Gala on Jan. 10 at the Vibiana in L.A., where she was asked about Mason and her other son Braydon, almost 10 months.
“[Mason’s] at the Disneyland Hotel,” she told OK!. “Actually, he’s [sleeping] on Dumbo right now! We always do birthdays at Disney and Brady is about to be ten months.”
She also shared that her house is a bit hectic right now, with a rambunctious 3-year-old and a baby learning to walk.
“It’s getting to be a little bit crazy around the house. They’re definitely fighting over toys and Brady’s starting to walk which Mason doesn’t like,” she tells OK!. “He’s wanting to knock him down all the time. But it’s very exciting and very fun. They’re both sweet and wonderful.”
And as for her plans to add to her family?
“Not now!” Melissa laughs. “At least I hope not! But probably in a few years. Four years or so. That’s my goal.”
