MLB.com reports that Dustin Pedroia and wife Kelli, following a scary bout with preterm labour last month, have welcomed their first child - a baby boy!

After jumping on a last minute flight to Boston, dad Dustin was able to be present for the birth of his son Dylan Pedroia, who weighed in at 7lbs.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona says that there is no time scheduled for Dustin to return to the game: “I told him his first responsibility is Kelli and that child.” Teammate Kevin Youkilis added, “We don’t know when he’s going to come back, and he can take his time, because having your first child, that’s a great thing in life, and we’re excited for him.”

“I think it’s a great thing after all she’s been through and Dustin’s been through, mentally,” says Kevin. “We always joke about dad strength, so hopefully he comes back and keeps hitting home runs. It’ll be a great thing for him.”
