Dec 11, 2010 by CAROLYN ROBERTSON

What a difference a year makes! Josie Duggar's first birthday is cause for big celebration for her family of 21.
"This baby is so small, I don't think she can survive," Michelle said shortly after the arrival of her youngest daughter, who was born at just 25 weeks weighing 1lb, 6oz. Not only did she survive, but she's hitting new milestones all the time. "Her outlook is so wonderful," gushes her mom. "It is a miracle."

Now 8 months old and weighing just over 11 pounds, Josie Duggar is "doing remarkable," mom Michelle reported on The Today Show this morning.
With their entire family gathered around them, Michelle and her husband Jim-Bob gave an update on little Josie's progress and talked about the new season of their TLC show 19 Kids and Counting.
Born early at 25 weeks due to Michelle's pre-eclampsia, Josie weighed just 1lb 6oz and was forced to spend extended periods in the hospital due to various health concerns. Now back home, Jim-Bob says that she's doing well despite needing supplemental oxygen while sleeping, and adds, "By the time she's 2 she should be caught up developmentally."
So could there be a 20th Duggar child on the way sometime soon? Michelle admits they're not ruling it out, saying "we would welcome" another babe.
Earlier this year Michelle, 43, told People, "We'll just wait and see what God has in store."

The 19th child of Michelle and Jim-Bob Duggar, Josie Brooklyn, is home with her family in Tontitown, Ark. after spending nearly six months in a childrens hospital, reports PEOPLE.
Josie was released from the hospital in early June, but was unable to return home as 12 Duggar children had the chicken pox. Mom Michelle and Josie stayed in a rented home near the hospital in Little Rock, Ark. until now. Of being home, Michelle said,
It is good to be home. It is surreal to be here. It was such a long time we were away."
After arriving prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing only 1lb. 6oz., Josie is now a "chunky" 9 lbs., 1 oz. Michelle added, "She has a double chin now. It is so precious."
Josie Duggar Released From Hosptial

After spending nearly five months in the neonatal intensive care unit of an Arkansas childrens' hospital, the youngest child of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, Josie Brooklyn, has been released from the hospital. Mom Michelle told PEOPLE of the good news,
We're so happy that she's doing so well. She's finally home, home, home."
Josie was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing only 1lb. 6oz., and soon after suffered from a perforated bowel. After a brief release from the hospital, she had to be readmitted as her vital signs were low.
She is now up to 7 lbs. 6 oz. and a diagnosis has been made on her condition. Josie's physician Dr. Robert Arrington revealed, "Her digestive issues have been linked to lactose intolerance. We are happy that she is doing so well and fully expect her to continue to thrive. Today, as she's leaving, she looks like a full-term baby."
Though Josie has been cleared to go home, Michelle has said that they will remain close to the hospital for a few weeks, "We're going to wait and see how it all goes. We're going to take it easy and hang out close to the hospital."
Michelle Duggar Says Baby Josie Has "The Sweetest Personality"
May 6, 2010 by HEIDI ORAN

While doctors search for permanent solution to the digestive problems ailing micropreemie Josie Duggar, Michelle and Jim-Bob Duggar are staying positive, reports PEOPLE. Josie was born 15 weeks prematurely on December 10th, 2009, at only 1lb. 6oz., and has suffered from a perforated bowel. Now gaining 0.2 oz per day, the youngest Duggar is up to 5 lbs., 14 oz. Mom Michelle says of her youngest child,
She loves to eat. When she feels good, she looks at you and smiles and talks. She's definitely a talker and has the sweetest personality."
After a release from the hospital in April, the youngest Duggar was sent back after only a week. In the past, the 19 Kids & Counting couple revealed that despite the issues with baby Josie, they are not ruling out a 20th child, saying, "We'll just wait and see what God has in store."
Josie Duggar Returns To Hospital
Apr 12, 2010 by CAROLYN ROBERTSON

Just a week after finally being allowed to go home with her family, baby Josie Duggar is back at Arkansas Children's Hospital today after her vital signs unexpectedly dropped.
"[The doctor] told us to never trust a preemie," says Josie's dad Jim Bob. "That is really true."
Though Josie was doing well when she returned home last week, fortifiers added to mom Michelle's breast milk to increase her intake of calories are apparently what triggered the latest setback. The fortifiers led to constipation which in turn led to the fluctuation in her vital signs.
Though he's not sure how long she'll have to remain at the hospital, Jim Bob reports that Josie is "doing fine now."
"It seems like she will do great for a few days and then have challenges. We are so encouraged about how she's doing, and it is amazing how she's filling out. But, even though she is beyond her due date and over the four-month mark, she is still not at the weight of a full-term baby," he says of his daughter, who now weighs 4lbs 12oz.
The youngest of the Duggars' 19 children, Josie was born on December 10, 2009 - 15 weeks earlier than expected due to Michelle's pre-eclampsia - weighing just 1lb 6 oz.
"We really appreciate everyone's continued prayers for Josie," Jim Bob adds.
