When It Comes To Fatherhood, LeBron James Leads by Example
| Aug 18, 2010 by MARSHA TAKEDA-MORRISON |

LeBron James' father left his mother Gloria when she was pregnant with him, but he isn't about to let that affect the way he parents his own sons, LeBron Jr., 5, and Bryce, 3.
"It's not all anger. "It's not all anger at all," People quotes from a recent interview. "I'm not downgrading my father or blasting him. I don't know what he may have been going through at the time. I'm not one of those to judge without knowing. I was too young to understand."
LeBron is even willing to credit his father for part of his success. "Without him, first of all, I wouldn't be here in this world," he says. "And then, secondly, I may have got a lot of genes from him, and that's part of the reason why I am who I am today."
But the real hero in LeBron's life is his mother, whom he recently honored by getting inked with a 'Queen James' tattoo.
"She doesn't hold her tongue," he says of mom Gloria. "If she sees something that she believes isn't right or is right, she's going to speak about it.
"I know my background, know what my mother went through," he says. "I never get too high on my stardom or what I can do. My mom always says, and my friends say, 'You're just a very low-maintenance guy.' "

LeBron James' longtime girlfriend, Savannah Brinson opens up to Harper's Bazaar about their move to Miami. Savannah poses in New York City, with sons LeBron Jr., 5 1/2, who shows off his basketball skills, and Bryce Maximus, 3. Read below to hear about LeBron's hopes for their sons' future:
On the move to Miami: “Personally, Miami was not my favorite place. Vacationing there is great: You go for three days and get some sun, and it’s time to go home. It will definitely be an adjustment, but we’ll make it. We’re not complaining. Whatever LeBron felt was comfortable, I’m with him. I just love him so much. We’re soul mates.”
LeBron Jr. on his future in the NBA: “I’m going to play in the NBA,” he announces proudly. His mother explains, “He sees his dad playing and he thinks it’s cool. But he can do whatever he wants to do in life. He doesn’t have to walk in his father’s footsteps.”
LeBron Sr. on his sons playing basketball: “Well, like any father, I would hope that they would follow in my footsteps. That would be a great story—and as a father, I would be on cloud nine every day. Ultimately, though, only the big man above knows their future. They do have lots of talent, though.”
