Russell Simmons' daughters Ming, 11, and Aoki, 8 have grown up in the spotlight but this is one dad who doesn't want fame to go to their heads – he's determined to instill in them a responsibility to help those around them.
“I tell them that their job as they become more famous is to use their celebrity to help others," the legendary hip-hop producer says. "Use their good benefit, if it’s money, to benefit others. And that that’s gonna make them happy, and that any hoarding, holding onto anything will result in sadness and they believe me, I think. So, that’s a constant discussion.”

Russell Simmons and his two daughters – Ming Lee, 10, and Aoki Lee, 7 - enjoyed a lunch date together at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday (January 30).
The 52-year-old media and fashion mogul recently sent out his heartfelt congratulations to ex-girlfriend Porschla Coleman, who recently welcomed her first child with NBA star, Jason Kidd:
While spending a great year of my life with Porschla Coleman, I learned that she is smart, independent and is making a positive impact on this world. As a teacher of yoga and a full-time philanthropist, she is someone who touched my heart, because of her kindness and her selfless spirit. She has moved on, found herself a new man that suits her well and they both are embarking on a exciting, new chapter in their lives. The negative portrayal of her by the media is so off-base, that with her graceful spirit she’ll brush it off and continue to be a force of change. Congratulations to Porschla and Jason and may god bless them and their newborn baby.

Aoki Lee Simmons Puts On A Show

Aoki Lee Simmons posed for pics at yesterday's Ovarian Cancer Research Fund's 12th annual Super Saturday in New York alongside her sister Ming Lee, dad Russell Simmons and his girlfriend, model Julie Henderson.
While Ming, 9 1/2, seemed a bit camera shy, Aoki, who turns 7 this month, happily hammed it up for the photographers. She looks like quite the little performer!
Ming and Aoki's mom is Russell's ex, Phat Fashions Director Kimora Lee Simmons.

Music Mogul Russell Simmons and his beautiful daughters Ming Lee, 9, and Aoki Lee, 6 1/2, grace the cover of the July issue of Jet magazine.
Though Russell split from the girls’ mom Kimora Lee in 2006, the exes have managed to keep things remarkably amicable.
“Obviously we have an arrangement, but Kimora is very gracious when it comes to the children,” Russell reveals. “Whenever there is something special, additional days that I want, she is very accommodating.”
"We are the best of friends,” he adds of his relationship with his former wife. “And that’s very helpful to the girls.”
Following in the footsteps of Bruce and Demi, Russell even seems to have welcomed Kimora’s new love, actor Djimon Hounsou, into the family fold. The two welcomed a child of their own, son Kenzo Lee, earlier this year. Russell has nothing but praise for his daughters’ new stepdad.
"We talk about fatherhood and his experiences and everything. I hope to make a movie with him soon,” Russell tells Jet. “He is a very calm, sweet person and a great stabilizing force in the way things have been between me and Kimora, so that’s great.”

In the midst of Hollywood's many nasty splits, Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons have managed to keep the breakup of their 7-year marriage remarkably amicable.
So what's their secret?
"You just learn to be a little bit accepting and promote tolerance and act and be tolerant yourself. Allow each other a little freedom, and faith,” Russell tells OK!, adding, "You smile no matter what happens."
The music mogul says he's "inspired" by what a great job Kimora does with their girls Ming Lee, 9, and Aoki, 6. As proof, he tells a story about his daughter's recent reaction to a certain unnamed celebrity who "runs around" a lot:
“...There was some celebrity who was in the Hamptons and I just missed her. And they asked me, ‘Did I want to see her?’ and I said ‘I’ll catch her later.’ They said, ‘Well, your daughter would like to see her.’ And she’s just one of those celebrities who runs around. They said ‘Well your daughter would love to see her.’ I said [to Ming Lee], ‘Would you like to see [this celebrity]?’ And she said ‘No, no, I think she makes bad choices.’ That’s what Ming Lee told me. That reminded me that their mother has been doing such a good job with them because she knows what’s a good choice already.”
Kimora, 34, became a mom for the third time just last week. The Baby Phat designer and her new love Djimon Hounsou welcomed a son, whose name has yet to be released, on Sunday.

Update: Kimora Lee Simmons Granted Sole Custody Of 2 Daughters

Update: Russell Simmons' publicist just sent this open letter to Perez Hilton regarding the following custody agreement between the hip hop mogul and Kimora Lee.
According to legal papers that The Insider has obtained, Kimora Lee Simmons has been granted sole legal and physical custody of her two young daughters, Ming, 8, and Aoki, 5. Father Russell Simmons has been granted visitation with the girls for one week every eighth week with additional summer vacation and holiday time. Kimora Lee has been granted the legal authority to make all decisions regarding their daughters' health, education and welfare.
Russell is legally responsible to pay Kimora Lee $40,000 per month for both children. Child support will be paid until each girl reaches the age of 19 1/2, becomes emancipated, dies, marries, becomes self-supporting, no longer lives with Kimora, joins the armed forces or if the court later orders otherwise. He must also purchase or lease a new car that is valued at no less than $60,000 for the use and benefit of his daughters. That car must be replaced every 24 months.
